Dating with digestive health issues?
Has anyone tried dating someone with a ‘normal’ GI tract??? I imagine there would be some awkward conversations & situations. Seems easier to start a relationship with someone with digestive health issues. A lot more understanding and compassion would be exchanged, I imagine.
Or was everyone already in a long term relationship & madly in love before their symptoms progressed?
Asking for a friend 😜

in this day and with everyone not being 100% perfect. hopefully you don't have to worry. just be upfront as soon as possible. if they don't want to deal with it or you. that's their problem and loss. i'm gay. and not in a ship right now. but no worries.
@cyberkitty ,
I’ve been wondering the same thing about dating right now. I’ve worked so hard to get fit and to reach “date weight.” 😉 So, to have the digestive issue cramp my style, pardon the pun…lol….is frustrating. I sure hope I can get it resolved soon. I just don’t want to start out having to explain things….🥴
Seeking single male with digestive issues who is interested in cancelling plans last minute, bland diets, separate washrooms, Imodium and Netflix.
Think that will bring the boys calling??
😂
@cyberkitty ,
That’s right! Ha! I’d have to bring along my Metamucil and Miralax! Lordy…..lol.
I married later in life (almost 39), and went out with a fair number of women. (I'm not bragging; apparently girls would kiss me and discover I was still a frog, so they moved on.)
Trust me, past about age 25, everybody has something weird about them. (This means that the guys aren't perfect, either.)
While you don't have to be graphic about it, you can say you're on a restrictive diet. I've dealt with vegetarians, vegans, religious dieters, allergy sufferers, you name it.
The only ones who bothered me were those who could only eat food from very expensive restaurants.
Good luck!
Sounds unpredictable, spontaneous, you never know what will happen next. Don’t sell yourself short. We all have our own issues. For me, moody, depressive male in mid 50s with cardiac problems…. Blah, blah, blah.
I think the right person would understand. If they don’t understand, then they are not right person on many levels.
@scottrl ,
Good points! We all have our issues, I suppose. This past summer a small group of my close friends met for a mountain/lake retreat. We all went to the market and bought separate food due to all the different diets! It was crazy! Before the trip, my brother questioned what my closest friends would be eating…I said mainly berries, nuts, seeds and yogurt….lol. Except when we arrived, I discovered they no longer eat diary!
I've been with my spouse for 25 years and I am so thankful we had many normal years together. I cannot even imagine dating now. He is very understanding about everything but if we are wanting to be intimate, I have to forgo eating pretty much anything for a few hours before and other preparations. He understands he needs to take advantage of "good" tummy days and that some days I feel disgusting and he doesn't take it personally. I don't know how anyone navigates the dating world with digestive issues. We should have our own dating site! Although many people who have had bariatric surgery do have digestive issues so join a bariatric dating support group and you may have lots of luck. 🙂
@mv63 ,
You are indeed very lucky! I haven’t had bariatric surgery, but I have lost 60 pounds. I’m considering online dating….we’ll see. 😊
I actually had the gastric sleeve surgery to try to cure gastroparesis. I wasn't really that big, and actually had to gain some weight to qualify. Worst decision ever! It did cure my gastroparesis and I had about 8 great years, until my connective tissue disorder caused an even greater failure in my digestive system, and then I had to convert to bypass or face esophogeal cancer. Then I got so thin and malnourished we thought I was going to die. If there is anyone who understands digestive issues, it's anyone who has ever had any type of bariatric surgery. Some of those guys look GOOD too! 🙂 They tend to be more health and diet focused, and since they have eating restrictions they totally get it! With a shorter bowel comes gas, bloating, and some days your stomach will accept food, and some it will not. Since they have loose skin they tend to be shy about dating. There are some hotties on the bariatric support groups. LOL!
