Any suggestions on what time of day is best for taking Hydroxyurea?
What time of day has worked best for everyone taking hydroxyurea? Neither my doctor or pharmacy suggested a time of day that helps with any possible side effects. I'm supposed to start taking it this week. Google searches say before or after food or at bed time.

Very interesting, I get short of breath alot
I take my HU at 7PM(after dinner) every night.. That has worked out well for me…
I take mine before I go to bed. Works for me
I found it works best for me to take it in the evening as well. I figured if it’s going to make me lightheaded and tired it might as well be before I go to bed.😊
Taking right before bedtime gave me bad dreams, so taking sometime after dinner works best for me. (Taking in the morning made me drowsy.)
My hematologist recommended a half hour before or after eating. I was also told to drink a full glass of water with it. It is also recommended to have 64 ounces of fluids daily to guard against the toxicity of Hydroxyurea.
Strange. I take Hydro 500 mg twice a day and have never felt anything different. I was never told to drink lots of water or take at any time that that would be best. I just take it with my morning supplement pills and before bed again with my supplements. But, two years ago my PLT count was 2057 and I was very fatigued, so I started with Hydroxyurea and in Aug 2024 my PLT was down to 671. Not where it's suppose to be but a great improvement!
I've been taking my daily 600 mgs(Droxia) in the evening, along with my other meds, for the past 6yrs. It has worked for me--lowered my platelets to normal range, while keeping other counts normal, and preventing splenomegaly.
I also take my HU at 730 every night, about 1 1/2 hours after dinner, with lots of water and sometimes a few spoonfuls of cottage cheese. It works for me. My dr told me to take 2 caps HU at same time every day, so I have my devices set to remind me
I was told to take my hydrea with plenty of water. If I do that at night, I wake up more often for the bathroom (sometimes happens when we are older) so I switched to morning with my breakfast. Have had no problems inthe last three years.
