Has anyone had kidney problems after having COVID or the vaccine?

I had COVID in Dec of 2020 and I noticed my GFR started dropping and my creatine start rising. I'm hoping to get some major testing done and get a good diagnosis

I wonder…I developed proteinuria and was diagnosed with a “benign” plasma cell disorder called MGUS, a few months after my 2vaccines (Moderna). It was from a physical and very unexpected. I also had 2 boosters in 2022. (Had a very mild case of Covid over a year ago.)

That’s been over 2 years ago, and my proteinuria has gone away, and the MGUS is stable and remains benign.
I’ve taken turmeric supplements so maybe that’s helped?
No one knows if the vaccine will cause problems over time yet. It is known to cause some inflammation that is hopefully transient.

My husband has IgA and we had Covid very early at the beginning of the pandemic. His nephrologist that Covid was possibly the trigger that "flared" his IgA. It was theorized by his nephrologist that the strong immune response from Covid flared the IgA and brought his kidney damage to a place where he needed dialysis and a transplant. This was all theorizing but the nephrologist felt that he had seen enough post-Covid kidney damage in patients to make that suggestion. I am not sure if that is what sort of information you were looking for, just anecdotal but it was our experience and the nephrologist was seeing enough of this sort of thing to make the connection.

This is so interesting! This all happened after my vaccines but a full year before getting a mild Covid case.
Who knows if I’d been very sick if hadn’t been vaccinated?
I have a history of reacting to flu shots for example, to needing a half-dose and still feel sick for several days. I have several allergies (PCN, pollen…)

I’m so sorry your husband experienced the loss of his kidney function as a result of Covid. 🥹

I think it was going to happen regardless, but Covid seemed to have sped it up. The IgA "flare-ups". The autoimmune disease had attacked his kidneys for years before, but the post-Covid immune response seemed to kick the attack into hyperdrive. It just sped up the inevitable, at least that is my understanding of it.

@roxylulu22 This is exactly what I have been thinking for several years. Where many people are saying the Covid vaccines "caused" a health situation, it was, in fact, the immune response of our bodies bringing that health issue to the front.

I have had chronic kidney disease for many years, and received my first Covid vaccine before many of the general population in our area. I was able to convince the doctor at the vaccine event held for teachers [which I am not!] that I needed it as I was immune compromised already with my multiple myeloma, and starting chemo. I have had multiple Covid vaccines at this point, including Evusheld.

Thank you for putting this out on this forum. I will be interested to hear what others have to say! FWIW I am on daily peritoneal dialysis since September 2022, and also on active chemo treatment for my mm.
