Hives after gallbladder surgery
I'm a 51 year old female who had her gallbladder out ten days ago. A couple of days after surgery I developed hives on my abdomen from under my breast, on my sides down to my groin area. Benadryl isn't working, and I don't seem to be affected by food, or the material in my clothes. I've lost a lot of sleep and am looking for some relief. I've never experienced anything like this. Has anyone else had issues with severe hives after gallbladder surgery?

Hi all,
Has anyone found a solution to this? @msskypooh i am suffering from the same issue and my back, my shoulders and my chest is covered with rashes that looks just like the picture you have shared.
jthaw,
It is really important that you call your doctor/ surgeon.
I had a similar rash post op, and it was an allergic reaction to the pain killer that I was given. Mine appeared almost immediately, unlike what other members have mentioned here.
Take care and good luck!
Could it be shingles? I developed insomnia after gallbladder surgery. It took my body 3 months to adjust not having a gallbladder. I didn't have an appetite during 3 mos.
Hi 10 days ago I had my surgery and I have experience same allergy on my abdomen can you please tell me what did you do to heal this because I have been taking zartac and hydrocortisone ointment not working
Hi salva,
If you are having an allergic reaction to a medication, you need to contact your doctor.
I'm pretty sure that the only way to get rid of an allergic reaction hive is to stop taking the medicine that's giving you it.
I think it can be dangerous to continue taking that medication when it gives you a rash. Like, something worse will happen if you keep taking it.
Good luck!
Thank you for replying I went to doctor she said I have allergy with the glue that they applied to cover on stitches so I have to clean it and I was told to take banadrl medicine for allergy and apply hydrocortisone ointment
HI Salva,
Allergy to the glue-- OMG. What next? [That last bit I wrote -- I meant it to sound like sympathy... sometimes it's hard to get the right tone in these short messages ] My sympathy & hope it clears up soon!
