Having knee replacement: how to prepare and questions about PT

Had a knee replacement on April 2014 everything came good . After 5 days in the hospital, 10 days on a Rehab came home . I had a therapist at the hospital plus my husband paid for private therapist at home. Very painful.
I started walking by my self ,no limping less pain in Oct 2014 6 month later I was diagnostic with breast cancer type 1. I went back . Depression killed me. After so many pain and now this .10 Radiation, 12 Chemo> it was to much for me.
Today I fell much better. The only thing is Anastrazole the side effect are to bad.
My Dr. Oncologist cancelled the Anastrazole for 3 weeks and tomorrow I ll start with Letrozole. See what happen

how old are you? Doesn't that enter into the equation?

I was 70 when I had the TKR.  Yes, I'm sure age does have an effect.  I was very fortunate.

@ gailfaith I almost in my 70;s when I had my first TKR. 13 and 11 years ago for L and R respectively. When I walked into my surgeon's office about 2 weeks later, the nurse asked where my cane was. I told her I never needed it. She said they were going to put me on a pedestal in the waiting room! Just had follow up x-rays last summer ('16) and he said they show no signs of wear. But this past summer I started a walking project around the retirement community campus here on Aug 13th.. I now have walked over 33 miles. Wonder what the next X rays will show during the summer of '18.???????

Hi Flor, the exercise you mention in a chair, if that is the same one i've been doing, you move the leg back toward you as far as you can and hold and then release? Works great when done in a glider.

My Orthopedic surgeon actually provided the pump at his office. In order for insurance to cover it the doctor must prescribe. Here is the link to the device that I use. But there are several updated versions with a few more bells and whistles. But I still use this. Lasted many years. Now my son is using it for his foot. I just purchased a different pad for his foot.

I just got a call from my orthopedic surgeon. I'm getting my second total knee replacement on January 29! I will be so glad to have this done! I'm getting ready to start ramping up my time on the stationary bike and leg exercises. I'm reading through all of your posts here to review helpful ideas. Meantime, if anyone else has special tips or hints, I'm listening. Wish me well!
