How do you feel about falling?
In the last two winters I've had two falls. The first was a series of three falls on an icy trail within 15 minutes resulting in a badly sprained wrist that took a looong time to recover from. Now I'm terrified of the ice or even slippery new snow, so I have four different sets of micro spikes.
Early last spring I fell down the steps (indoors) carrying my ailing dog to let her out in the middle of the night. She was fine. I was badly bruised in multiple places. Now, no socks on steps, carry only one thing and hold the rail. I manage steps very carefully.
I am paranoid about falling. Maybe I should practice falling correctly! What are your thoughts about falling? What do you do to prevent falls?

@bej39 Search shingles and CBD. My doctors make jokes about my new found treatment. But let me tell you, CBD oil makes the pain from shingles go away. Even the electric shocklike pain. It doesn’t stop the outbreak unfortunately, but makes it bearable.

My wife is 100 pounds. I'm 230. If I fall I cannot get up by myself. Fortunately, she has dealt with handicapped kids all of her career. She can find a way to get me up. The problem is that, the day after I woke up from Covid back in April of 2020 I developed foot drop. It's amazing how important the toes are in maintaining our balance and allowing us to get our foot into the proper position to rise from the floor. And now a nerve that controls the thigh muscles in my other leg is compromised as of a couple of months ago, so I have at the most 30% of strength lift to assist me in rising from the floor. It's really important that I don't fall.
@cekkk Thank you for sharing your story @cekkk- sounds like you married the right woman! I wonder what you're doing for that compromised nerve in your leg- PT, OT, exercise program? Sometimes it's a vicious cycle- afraid to fall, so we don't move around as much as we should, then we get weaker, more afraid of falling and on and on. Hope you find some ways to remediate your foot drop and compromised thigh strength.

And a humorous anecdote from today - I showed up at AM Yoga as usual, and a few minutes in the instructor said, "Wow, Sue, your chin looks really good today." I answered "Do I have something on my face?" And she said "Jerry said you cut it yesterday, but it looks fine now - it healed quick." Several in the group burst out laughing as I lifted my pants leg to show her the four inch long (sort of bloodstained) bandage on my shin!
Regional accents and senior hearing make for fun times some days! Tomorrow I will install the window blinds using my step ladder - and make sure there is nothing in the sink!

I'll see her neurologist in early February to discuss the results of the EMG and MRI or CT that he had done. He told me not to use the treadmill. It's too cold to swim, although I have both a solar heater and a propane heater, but it's too cold for the solar and the propane heater uses four to five gallons an hour, so I'm waiting till it warms up a bit. I do have other exercise equipment and I need to get off my Duff and do it. I can't wait to get back in the pool.

@cekkk Good for you! There are some great chair exercises on YouTube and elsewhere like Silver Sneakers so you can start out slow and easy, even without getting off your duff! And swimming is such a great full body workout. Wishing you well. You can improve your mobility and your quality of life at the same time!
I experienced dizziness and fell last August broke my leg. I had a heart rate in the 40’s and a blood pressure in the 70’s. Because of blood not circulating well my kidneys were damaged. I’ve not recovered I went on to have a heart attack in November. I’m only 65, I’m not getting better, Im very discouraged. I’m normally a very active independent person. But a fall can lead to disasters.I keep waking up thinking I’ll be back to my old self, not happening.
