Anxiety or Heart Issues?

Posted by libby93 @libby93, Apr 19, 2019

Before I start I want to inform you that I do have severe anxiety and panic disorder. I'm also a 25 year old female. About 2 years ago I started experiencing these awful chest pains. It scared me so bad I went to the ER to get checked out. They did chest x rays, ekg, etc. All of those came back normal. So they sent me home and said to take asprin. The pains kept coming back. It was to the point where I couldn't leave the house. I quit my job and everything. Everyone told me it was just my anxiety. I finally set myself up with a PCP. Told him all the symptoms I was experiencing, convinced I was going to have a heart attack. He had me do another xray, a stress test, blood work, and wear a heart holter monitor for 72 hours. All of those once again where clear. So he put me on a low dose beta blocker and it's done wonders for me up until about 2 weeks ago. The chest pains, dizziness, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, left arm pain and tingling, etc all came back. I missed 4 days of work cause I couldn't leave the house. Again went to the ER a few days ago over this.... nothing was found... is it all anxiety and in my head? Or is there something wrong with my heart? It's ruining my life... I had all these tests done to show my heart is healthy but I can't help but think my dr missed something... thanks for reading.

@sakota Pretty scary when something like this happens for the first time, then continues, isn't it? Have you had a complete physical done recently, to rule out anything organic to cause the sudden chill? The doctors might check for thyroid issues or a recurring infection, doing some lab tests to figure it out. I hope you find out soon, for your peace of mind.

@gingerw. Ive had my thyroid checked a couple of times. One time it was off and then next time was back to normal level. I asked my dr to have it checked again next month. So if its off again will ask for more testing. I go to drs often with cancer and copd. Plus i see a counselor once or so a month.

@lisa. I just dont know. Ive been thru a lot lately.
I dont know what an anxiety attack feels like. I know i get nervous about certain things but i dont avoid them. I would say ive been. Under stress for most of my life more so then anxiety. I just want to get things figured out.

@sakota- I join you with this, however you never had lung cancer until this year so that might be an extra notch in the PTSD and stress factor..it was for me! What do you think? Can I ask what you take for stress, if any?

I get the shakes during a fibromyalgia flare, huddle under blankets in 90 degree heat, get them when I have an infection, get them if I gulp down cold water, get them really bad during a migraine, so bad it looks like a seizure or stroke then anxiety sets in and docs jump right to that. You know your own body better then anyone.

Hi, @sarasally2 - just making sure I understand what you are meaning ... are you saying that fibromyalgia, drinking cold water, migraine or an infection cause you to shake, which then generates anxiety that the doctors ultimately focus on?

Have you found any solutions that help the shaking?

@sarasally2- I use to have migraines and I shook too. I've never had fibromyalgia but my twin did and she was in horrible pain. Could it be that you are shaking from pain? Do you take any pain meds?

you can buy a heater that helps with the shakes but if they are from an infection then you have to have that taken care of, if it is anxiety I take a half of a Xanax, takes time to figure it out. I have had a UTI for three weeks and the antibiotics cause diarrhea and I am hoping I don't get cdiff back again, today I went to get rechecked for the UTI and the diarrhea was so bad I got the shakes so have to rehydrate, ugh

I have tried everything under the sun for fibro and when it hits I just stay in bed til it passes. Nothing seems to work for me, tried gabapentin for awhile and it did nothing, lyrica was horrible and SSRI's do not work for me

@sarasally2 - that sounds frustrating to have nothing seem to work for your fibromyalgia.

By the way, if you've not yet checked out this Connect discussion on fibromyalgia, you may be interested https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/feeling-at-my-with-end-with-chronic-pain-and-fibromyalgia

@sarasally2 - My twin used pain patches, fentanyl and they worked for her. You must feel like there will be no end to this. Have you seen a pain specitalist?

there is no end, had it most of my life. I have gone to pain clinics to no avail unless it is my arthritis or something they can treat.
