Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

@IndianaScott

You all are making me hungry! This conversation also brought back memories of when I was about to get married. My mom gave my soon-to-be bride a small recipe book of her ‘favorites’. My wife was 100% Italian and was an amaxing cook (she was even was published in Better Homes & Gardens). As she read my mom’s recipes for the first time later that night she gasped and said to me “Scott, do you realize every one of your mom’s recipes have at least one can of Campbells soup in them?”

I believe it, Scott. Campbell's soup has been a longstanding addition to recipes.

@merpreb Why would baking cause a TIA?

@hopeful33250 @lioness My mother would only use Bennett's which is hard to find now. It is the best though, it's chunkier. I just googled it and it is available in Target apparently, but also on Amazon. I generally keep things I want to buy in my shopping cart on Amazon until I have enough there to get free shipping. I don't think Prime would be worth it to me.

@contentandwell I'm not all familiar with Bennett's in my neck of the woods. Is it a type of ketchup or tomato sauce?

@gingerw

@contentandwell Sometimes my recipes get adventurous when making meatloaf or soups or stews. I remember one time using leftover homemade minestrone soup in my meatloaf because that's what I had on hand. It truly was a kitchen sink meatloaf. But it turned out pretty dang good.

@gingerw Meatloaf recipes are quite forgiving, you can add most things to it and not ruin it. I was surprised at @parus who said she has added raisins and apples. That is different but would be interesting. She sounds like a good cook, so I'm sure her ideas would not disappoint.

@hopeful33250 It's a chili sauce. We always preferred it to Heinz. It makes a great Russian dressing too with mayo and some horseradish. I did notice that now they have a variety that comes with horseradish already in it. I plan to buy some with my order from Amazon.
There are a number of things I can't get now that were mainstays back then. There were wonderful London Lodge pickle stix, and Geisha King Crab meat was great. I think that just got too expensive for stores to keep it. The last time I bought it I had to ask for it, it was behind a counter!

Geisha crab meat was great.

@harriethodgson1 I just went to their website and there is still a King Crab meat, I wonder if it's the same as it used to be. It's $80 for 12 cans.

This is available on Amazon for $81.88!
Geisha Wild Caught Fancy Crab Meat (Pack of 3) 6 oz Cans by Geisha

That must be the real thing. Pretty pricey, no wonder the stores don't carry it anymore.

@harriethodgson1 Me too. I would buy a can or for about $10, for a treat, but I would not buy 12 of them for $80. The other price, for three, is crazy.
