Life can be hectic, with jam-packed schedules leaving little time for meal preparations. It’s easy to rely on fast food options during these times, however, they often provide little nutrition and can leave you feeling unsatisfied. However, there are plenty of convenient and nourishing options to consider when you find yourself in a pinch.

  • Frozen Entrees: These meals can be a lifesaver when cooking from scratch is not an option. Look for options with wholesome ingredients, minimal preservatives, and low sodium. Great examples include Smart Ones, Healthy Choice, and Lean Cuisine.
  • Quick Meals On-The-Go: Consider assembling a “meal kit” to include foods like pre-cut fruits and vegetables, nuts, whole grain crackers, single serve cheeses, yogurt, etc.
  • Pre-packaged Salads and Wraps: Many grocery stores and gas stations now offer these nutrient rich items. Looks for options with a variety of fresh vegetables and lean proteins.
  • Smoothies: Whipping up a balanced smoothies are an excellent way to create a nutritious meal. All you need are frozen fruits, vegetables, protein powder, and your favorite liquid (low fat milk, unsweetened plant-based milks, or yogurt).

These meals are nutritious and filling options for when you’re in a pinch.  Aim for meals with a good mix of lean protein, healthy fats, fiber, and a variety of color.

In conclusion, we all have days where cooking a full meal is not feasible. By being prepared and mindful of what you consume, you can nourish your body even on the busiest of days.

What are some of your favorite quick healthy meals?

Unfortunately I need to be on low fodmap diet. So many fruits and vegetables I can’t eat! Very frustrating.

I'm surprised you are recommending frozen processed foods. A sandwich on seeded whole wheat bread with almond butter would be a better choice than lean cuisine, healthy choices and smart ones with all the chemical preservatives. Really?

I eat some of the frozen, processed meals. I keep them for days when Im in a hurry. They may not be the best but are better than nothing. I wouldnt recommend eating them daily but on occasion I feel they are an acceptable choice.

Smoothies made with Kefir, frozen and fresh fruit work well for breakfast. Sometimes, I'll add a teaspoon of peanut butter for extra protein. It is quick and nutritious.

Lunches with soups and tuna fish sandwiches work well. Also, scrambled eggs on toast are just great.

Hummus on veggies or as a topping on baked potatoes is also an easy, nutritious snack.

Hi, thank you for your response and idea of whole wheat bread with almond butter! Frozen meals may not be for everyone, but for some when they are short on time, it can be a better option than fast food or skipping a meal.

This is frustrating, as the low fodmap diet is tricky. Hopefully there are some fruits and veggies you can tolerate in smaller amounts.
