Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is the most common type of dementia for those living under the age of 60. Most cases occur between the ages of 45 and 64 and is caused by shrinking in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. There is also a genetic component to FTD.
Symptoms of FTD include personality changes, apathy, struggles with decision making, speaking and language comprehension.
ALLFTD is one study focused on learning more about FTD. They are learning more about the disease so we can one day develop treatments. If you are caring for someone living with FTD, the Association for Frontotemporal degeneration has helpful information for support, research, and advocacy.
