#MayoClinicNeuroChat about Scoliosis

Once you have been diagnosed with scoliosisand have balance issues will back surgery correct this problem? Or would it be better to use a back brace? Also will scoliosis cause you leg pain?

I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was in the 2nd grade and started wearing a brace in 2nd grade my was already so bad. The doc told my mom if they had not treated my scoliosis then by the time I was eighteen I wouldn't be able to stand up straight. They got my curve down to 12 degrees. I'm 50 yrs old now and in 2012 my curve has progressed back to 30 degrees and the doc said we will just watch it really shouldn't get much worse. I walked with a limp it caused a lot of back pain leg pain some. This year it had progressed for 30 to 67 degrees so I had to have surgery and it did help my hip and my pain some. I wouldn't start wearing a brace at this age for nothing. There horrible devices. I had to wear one for six yrs growing up; that was enough. Hope you can find some answers.
