- What role do support systems—like caregivers, friends, or even pets—play in healing?

My personal belief is that a support system is an essential part of healing/recovery.
A major health event can be very isolating. Not only because of a loss of mobility, but people often find out how many friends they *don't* have.
That's very depressing. In my own case, I wondered how a stroke could make me so "radioactive" that people wouldn't even email me.
That being said, the encouragement I did get, especially from my wife, kept me going through the worst days, when pain, exhaustion, frustration, and isolation made me wonder why I was even bothering.
I am convinced that support literally made the difference between life and death.
