Open to families throughout Florida's First Coast, no fee to attend.
Dates: July 16, 23, 30 and August 6
5:30-7:00 p.m. ET
Each session will be held on the first floor of the Mangurian Building on Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida.
You and Your Family Are Not Alone.
The cancer care journey affects patients, their spouses and partners and their children. Family First helps adult cancer patients and their loved ones through this journey. Families attend each session together, but the program uses peer-to-peer discussions (i.e., one discussion group for children and another group for adults) and art activities to foster communication and reduce feelings of isolation that are common among families that are dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
The Benefits of Family First include:
- Children and adults meet others who are experiencing the same concerns and stresses.
- It's fun and family-friendly. Each session begins with a complimentary family-style meal.
- It uses a research-based program that fosters self-expression and communication.
- Mayo Clinic social workers and other staff with extensive experience lead the program.
We are now enrolling for our summer session of Family First. The program meets once per week, on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:00 p.m., for four weeks. A light, family-style dinner will be served at the beginning of each meeting.
