Edward Loftus Jr., M. D., discusses the recent Food and Drug Administration approval of a new treatment for ulcerative colitis. Dr. Loftus explains the process Uceris, a budesonide foam, went through to receive FDA approval. The phase three trials found higher remission rates, improvement in disease activity, and rectal bleeding. The new drug will be available soon for treatment of ulcerative colitis.

is it normal to have pain in arms when you have an attack of Ulceractive collides
Zailey, would you describe the pain in your arms as joint pain?
"Up to 30 percent of people with UC also have arthritis, which is characterized by swollen, painful joints." Read more in this article.

=Thank you for getting back to me, I am researching for my best friend. She is 68 yr old and she began having problems last Oct. Diarrhea every day, loss down to 102 lbs from 128 in just 2 months time. her primary care Dr ordered all types of test but could not get her in to see GI DR until beginning of Feb. She even went to ER thinking it was her heart. Now about the pain in both arms. It is like having a major attack all of a sudden the pain begins in upper arms and them radiates all way down to hands. She said it doesn't feel like arthritis pain, its starts where you would flex your muscles in behind the muscle. says it is like no other pain she has ever had and hard to describe but it comes on all of a sudden and last on average 8 to 5 min before it begins to ease and go away. She was diagnosed with ulceractive colitis in Feb. and is taking 3 Budesonide ec3 every morning.. Her diarrhea is much better and only happens occasionally. Any feeback you can provide would be so appreciate. Thank You in advance and oh by the way she has been my best friend for 59 yrs.
update, I went to Heart Dr with friend today and she was advised that the pain in arms is not from the ulcerative colitis they are going to do stress test and if its not her heart, they will send her to orthopedic to check nerves in back of neck. She don't understand why the GI Dr did not tell her that the pain in her arms was not related to the ulcerative colitis but actually told her it could be related to the ulcerative colitis. Do you know of anyone who has had pain in arms from this disease ? Thankful she seen Heart Dr Zailey
Zailey, how lucky for your friend that you are able to accompany her to her appointments. It is good to have another set of eyes and ears. It sounds like her cardiologist is being pro-active and helping her to get to the route cause. A stress test is a good place to start.
In reply to @colleenyoung
Yes Im so happy she is looking at other avenue to seek out cause of her problem, WE are like sisters and she goes with me to my Dr app and helps me with whatever I need and I have many more health problems than she does. She is a friend indeed!!!
@colleenyoung Colleen, is it possible to get flu like symptoms occasionally with ulceractive colitis. It has happened to my friend 3 times in past two months. She gets fever and hurts all over for approx day and half and then it goes away.
Hi. I have ulcerative colitis and usually feel flu symptoms, including low grade fever, around mid-afternoon. Particularly feel it in my head, but without headache. For me, it subsides in the evening.
