Join the Center for Humanities in Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Arizona for an evening exploring the power of music to communicate patient stories.   

 

Composer Tobias Picker and librettist Aryeh Lev Stollman will discuss their recent world premiere operas: Awakenings, based on the book of the same name by Oliver Sacks, and Lili Elbe, telling the story of one of the first persons to undergo gender affirmation surgery.   

 

Picker, a Grammy Award winning composer, has written works commissioned and performed by The Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, among others. Stollman, a Lambda Award winning author, is a writer and neuroradiologist and body imager at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
