World Cancer Day just occurred on February 4th with the goal to raise more awareness on cancer, encourage prevention, and reduce inequities in cancer care. With organizations like Wellness RX and the Comprehensive Cancer Center, Mayo Clinic strives to address the global pandemic that affects more than 130,000 people around the world that will receive care at one of our locations.
Mayo Clinic actively participates in Cancer awareness efforts in February for World Cancer Day and National Cancer Prevention Month- whether this is through research, patient education, or treatment. During this month, our goal is to tailor every patient's care to their unique cancer and needs, offer patient education materials, weekly classes, and online courses. The American Association for Cancer Research estimates that roughly 2 million Americans were diagnosed with cancer in 2024 and more than 600,000 died from their disease.
More than 40% of these cases can be prevented by:
- quitting smoking (or never starting)
- maintaining a healthy body weight
- exercising regularly
- protecting yourself from the sun
The Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Care Center is the no.1 ranking cancer care center in Arizona, Florida, and Minnesota, transforming the nation's cancer research efforts by focusing on a team approach to find new and better ways to prevent, intercept, diagnose, and treat cancer.
