Edward Loftus Jr., M. D., discusses a recently published article in The American Journal of Gastroenterology that looks at older, on-set inflammatory bowel disease patients with evidence of serious infections.
The study concludes that elderly patients with IBD that take corticosteroids are two to three times more likely to develop an infection that is serious enough to require hospitalization.
