This month’s Cancer Outreach Across Communities update highlights work happening in Arizona, where Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) continues to collaborate with trusted community partners to expand access to evidence-based programs that promote healthier lifestyles and help reduce cancer risk.

Supporting Tobacco Cessation With Native American Connections

In partnership with Native American Connections,10 participants recently completed the Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills Certification. The program provided practical education, tools and support to help participants reduce or quit tobacco use, an important step toward lowering cancer risk and supporting long-term health.

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles Through Vida Saludable

In collaboration with Salud en Balance, 17 participants completed the Spanish-iteration of Body & Soul known as Vida Saludable. The six-week program supported participants in making sustainable changes around nutrition and physical activity through culturally relevant education, group discussion and goal setting.

The work happening in Arizona reflects Mayo Clinic’s broader commitment to improving community health through local partnerships, community-informed programs and prevention-focused education.
