Thu, Jan 17 1:05am · scar tissue after knee replacement in Joint Replacements

@u13496
I have had both knees done-6 months apart-in the last 2.5 years. I did PT weekly in 2 months prior to surgery. Strength and easy to 132. I did well with both knees. Now, I actually forget I’ve had the surgeries sometimes. Time is a huge element. BUT, my knees still hurt when cold out. Once I move around I’m ok. Not pain free but okay. 100x better than pre-surgeries. I totally believe weather plays a big part in how much pain I have. I urge all to understand that you have to realize time WILL take care some of the problems. Be good to yourself.

I put off my surgery for 3 years on my left. Within 2 months I felt I made a bad decision in holding off on the surgery.
I know some write here of continuing pain after TKR, but I even fell full force on ice on cement and it was sore, but still worked well.
That fall must have knocked out some scar tissue because “my” knee felt sore as heck, but the pain in walking was a lot less.

I don’t look forward to the surgery, but sure am looking forward to having 2 knees that work well. I literally can’t tell that my titanium knee isn’t mine.
I’m a believer in Physical Therapy both before and after.

I live in the Northwest pt of the US, stem cell isn’t a regular treatment. I did find it at the Univ of WA but couldn’t afford it and my insurance totally rejected it. I would imagine in a few years, if results continue to be good, insurance will have to cover it. But that doesn’t help my pain now.

I bought a new treadmill so that post surgery I can get walking inside asap!

@mari, I hope it all works well for you and I’ll be looking forward to hearing how it goes for you. Prayers of health go your way.

Hi @JustinMcClanahan, thank you for your inquiry.
The NON TKR knee is scheduled to have a TKR on Feb 6th.
The pain I was having turned out to be from bone on bone.
I had a orthoscopic procedure about a year and a half ago. Doc said knee looked good, small adjustments made to miniscus. But what he couldn’t see was that the arthritis was working its way underneath.
I tried cortisone shot and synvisc. Both were of no help.
I waited too long for the first TKR, this time I’m getting rid of the pain asap.

I read the posts often on this site.
I am doing PT now, prior to the surgery, to get my muscles as strong as possible.
I believe that having done the same with the first TKR, my recovery was faster and with less pain.
Right now my TKR knee is at 130 and the right side, soon to be replaced is at 135.

Hoping that my “new” knee holds up during surgery recovery for the weaker one.

Question: Does anyone have the problems I do with acid reflux when taking the pain pill? If yes, what do you use to combat it?
I never had this problem pre-surgery and want to avoid it with this surgery.

Thank you to all for being there.

Sep 21, 2016 · Withdrawal from Lexapro, Welbutrin, Lyrica, prescribed Ziprasidone. in Depression & Anxiety

I went from 20 to 10 mg of Lexapro. Went to 15mg for 2 weeks then 10mg, which I still am on today. I have an anxiety disorder, for as long as I can remember due to a nightmarish childhood. I had little difference in my feelings and no physical side effects. I know that can happen but I was so happy that I didn’t experience emotional distress. That was my main apprehension. I stayed really busy at work and kept in my garden, my “away” place. I went off for about 5 months. The anxiety attacks returned and were unreal in their severity. My doc put me back on at 10mg. I hope you find peace of mind and body as you taper off.

My LKR has gone so well BUT my right knee- The real one, is so inflamed and hurts so badly when I walk that I find myself doing everything to avoid walking. PT thinks I strained a ligament on my upper leg and it’s pulling on the kneecap. The pain is far worse than my left one that had the replacement. I had all kinds of test run on the right knee prior to the operation on my left knee in late June.
Has anyone else experienced pain and swelling in the non-operated on knee? I have appointment with orthopedic surgeon in two weeks.
If yes please tell me what you did about it.
Thank you

Hi, I’m 2 mths past. Doing exactly what you’re doing. What kind of pain reliever do you use?
My pain really starts bothering me around 4pm ish.
I ice it but not as effective as in the past. Any ideas on easing the pain and swelling?

Jul 24, 2016 · Need help! Depression and anxiety in Depression & Anxiety

I’m so sorry to hear of your med reaction.
I am a victim of sexual abuse, along with my two sisters. It took 2 decades for The combination of therapy and meds to get me out of my anxiety disorder. I’m still prone to anxiety attacks but not often at all. I am on a 10 mg once a day dose of Lexapro. I remember years ago they doubled it for me and I felt like a zombie. I am also on and as needed 1 mg of Xanax. I barely ever use this drug. I have worked to get it out of my life as much as I can.
I consider these drugs no more or less then a diabetic taking insulin. I have a full functioning life. Very happy family, job as an executive director of a nonprofit that I really enjoy.
From my experiences I would say that the combination of doubling your Lexapro which is a f
strong dose at 20 mg and taking you off very quickly, in my opinion, of the drug your system was used to, is the reason you’re having your system reactions now.
I found a wonderful psychiatrist who worked diligently with me to find what combination was best to address the anxiety. We did and now I see him once every six months just to make sure everything is still working well. I hope, so very much, that you find a doctor like him who will listen and help you find the best combination to make you feel your best. Hope you keep us up-to-date.

Jul 16, 2016 · AFib questions in Heart Rhythm Conditions

My husband has Afib.

Sometimes he gets light headed and has to sit and rest till it passes.
Is this common for those with Afib?

He is on Coumadin as the only med for the Afib.
