We will traveling to Bangladesh in December with my wife and 2 year old daughter (I was born there but wife and daughter was not and this is their first time). There is a very low risk of Japanese encephalitis (JE) in Bangladesh but we decided to get the vaccine for our daughter after consulting with our pediatrician.
When we were making the appointment, we didn’t realize that the there two doses — 28 days apart. We will leaving for the trip on the 27th days. We asked the doctor if it is ok to get the vaccine on the 26th or 27th day. We would like to avoid giving her the shot on the day we are traveling.
After the first does of JE vaccine, daughter had a slight fever and probably little bit of pain as well. We were closely monitoring but also wondering if it will be ok to get the vaccine earlier or also can we skip it altogether?
In Bangladesh, we will be with family and in urban areas.
