Dec 28, 2018 · Thyroid Problems leading to weight loss in Diabetes/Endocrine System

In veterinary medicine there is a syndrome called "sick euthyroid" where the thyroid levels are off but not because of primary thyroid issues. It is because of another illness affecting the body. We do not treat the thyroid levels, but rather search for the underlying disease process. Perhaps this is a problem in humans as well? Something to discuss with your doctor? If the doctors say that your symptoms are not typical for levothyroxine reactions, then perhaps they need to be looking deeper for another non-thyroid problem? Just my veterinarian thoughts……

Dec 16, 2018 · Thyroid Problems leading to weight loss in Diabetes/Endocrine System

I had some palpations/irregular heartbeat when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (low thyroid) although it is more common when the thyroid is overactive or too much thyroid pill replacement. It seemed to go away with the treatment and I have had my dose decreased to a very minimal amount. Thyroid levels are monitored yearly and remain normal. The thyroid is a major control center for the body so issues can produce many symptoms. I wonder if your diagnosis was over or underactive thyroid?

Dec 10, 2018 · Facing Cancer Recurrence, PTSD & Acknowledging Mental Health in Cancer: Managing Symptoms

I had a massive head surgery in 2012 for SCC, and related lung mets in 2014 and 2016. Both were removed by VATS wedge resection. Next scans are next week at Mayo so trying to keep positive and not worry. I have a friend Bob who has passed away from his lymphoma, but he was the most positive person you could ever meet. His final "goal" was to "Finish Life", which he did very successfully. I loved his analogy of kicking a tin can down a long road……… every kick gets you a little farther, and the farther you go, the more likely you will encounter something new and different. New treatments are just around the corner. Just one more kick could land you closer to the treatment that will really have an impact on your cancer. Keep kicking and think positive. Don't give your cancer the benefit of all that stress-induced cortisol release!

So sorry to hear of your recurrence. Good news that it was surgically removed, and is the radiation to that area of the lung? Were you able to have a VATS procedure or was it an open thoracotomy? I had SCC in my ear canal and have had two lung mets removed, 18 months and 3 years after my initial surgery. Both were removed surgically via VATS at Mayo but no radiation afterward. The second one was an extension of the first, so I wonder if your radiation will help to clear the area. What kind of side effects are expected from radiation? Good luck with your recovery.

Nov 30, 2018 · Oesophageal tumour in Head & Neck Cancer

I am so sorry about your horrible outcomes of these terrible surgeries. As a head and Neck cancer patient I can only say that you are not helpless to help yourself. You can and should conduct your own research into other cases, papers, surgeries, etc. to take an active part in your treatment. In my case it also meant seeking out treatment at a distance from home, at Mayo Clinic Rochester. Once there, I already had a good handle on the prognosis and treatment available for my rather rare cancer location. The internet is a great tool, and you have more time and motivation to use it than your doctors and consultants. New things are being tested and attempted daily, and it is up to you to discover these things. Take a serious look at a MAyo CLinic referral. At least a consultation by your doctors could be helpful. Don't give up hope. Sometimes that is all we have left.

Nov 26, 2018 · Have you tried to quit smoking while undergoing treatment? in Cancer

I have never smoked, but my father did for 50 years. The day he learned he had SCC of the mouth he quit. Just did it. What incredible will power. The desire to live is strong. Unfortunately it was too late to change the course of events and he died of his cancer a few years later.

Nov 19, 2018 · HPV Throat Cancer in Head & Neck Cancer

My SCC was in the external ear canal and non-hpv but in 2012 I had 35 radiation tx while doing 7 cetuximab (Erbitux) treatments….a targeted therapy. I believe that is approved for use in recurrent H & N cancer now. Dr. Price at Mayo really liked that type of chemo to sensitize the tumor during the radiation. I also have met several other H&N patients at the immune therapy clinic in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, where I have continued immune therapy treatment since the end of radiation. You can look into this via the website immunetherapy.net. The clinic has just reopened in a new location with a new medical director after being closed for 2 years. It does seem to help in the battle against SCC, and I credit it with prolonging my life, as it has done for many others. First and foremost, though, is to follow thru with traditional medicine. Also look into research about Beta glucan as an immune system modulator. You can purchase it yourself but there are good and poor products out there.
