Jul 13, 2011 · Severe Back, Groin, Hip pain in Bones, Joints & Muscles

They diagnosed it after they took the new hip out, cleaned it and put it back in and the symptoms where the same. They then had to remove that hip and put in another new one. It was very tedious and took a real toll on my mum’s health as they could not remove the Golden Staph only treat it with antibiotics. They were not able to do the other hip or any other surgery as the Golden Staph would attack any foreign object in her body. It’s not a very pleasant thing to end up with and Mum was in pain until she passed. I truly hope that this is not what is wrong with your Mum.

Hi Eric – My mother went in for a hip replacement and ended up in total agony. No-one could understand what was happening and the other patients were coming and going and Mum was getting nowhere. It turned out that she had got Golden Staph along with the new hip hence all the pain, agony and not being able to walk without her walker. I’m not saying that is what your mother has but it’s something to be considered. My mum’s pain was very devilitating and was in her hips, groin and back – sounds very familiar.

Wishing your mum all the best and a speedy recovery.

Thanks Tilly 🙂

Jul 10, 2011 · menopause in Women's Health

Hi Tilly do you have any links to good info on the net that explains all that is involved. I have Stiff Person Syndrome and have started going through menopause on top of it all. I’m finding it hard as the body is rejecting the meds, or else causing the meds to have exagerated side effects. I didn’t know about feeling overwhelmed or like I was going to burst – I had just put that down to anxiety and SPS. How long does it go for?? Arghhhhh – NOT what I need just now (LOL).

Thanks for any feedback you can give me. Judiff

You haven’t mentioned if you have had a hysterectomy at all. I went through a lot of discomfort and pain when my uterus and cervix collasped which led to a hysterectomy im my early 30’s. I am 52 now and just starting to get Major Signs of menopause, none of which are nice but dryness and total lack of interest are right there on top. Can you add any more info to your post so that we may be able to help you a bit better. Cheers – Judiff

Jul 6, 2011 · What do you think of this Mayo Clinic community site? in Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT)

Hi Lee – I’m a new member. I am surprised however that Mayo doesn’t have Stiff Person Syndrome listed in health interests as Mayo is one of the main clinics for the disorder. Hopefully it can be added soon.

It’s a great idea though and I hope it goes well.

Hi Sue – how long has your husband had SPS? Has your Neuro tried him on Diazepam and Baclofen. A lot of SPS’ers use Gabapentin for the pain. Also I’ve recently found out the if your not a diabetic you will not get much benefit from the plasma exchange. We are all different yet we are the same – SPS is funny like that.

Have you tried the Inspire Group as they have a big following for SPS there and wonderful members that offer loads of support.

Wishing you all the best in your search for answers and relief. (I have SPS)

Cheers Judiff:)
