Jan 23, 2019 · Has anyone had sharp thigh pain after hip replacement in Joint Replacements

Hi@johnboy2323
Just want to say welcome to the group. Looking at your story I would have the dr do a aspiration (draw fluid from hip) for infection. My husband had the problem with pain in his left leg after his left hip was replaced in Jan 2015. They did a aspiration and found he had a infection. He had the hip removed a spacer put in and was on 6 wks iv antibiotics. The spacer is in for 3 months. He now goes in Jan 31st for his new hip. Try asking the Dr to do that. Hope it helps.

@izabel Yes this is Lisa. Sorry I have not been back on before this. I recently started back to work so it's been more of a challenge to work and take care of him. But yes he is getting around fairly good with the walker. He really tried to do things on his own. He don't like to depend on anyone. And it is just really bothering him to sit around and do nothing. So he is constantly up with the walker moving. Which I guess is giving him practice on one foot. But by the end of the end he is really tired. Hope things get better and we can keep in touch.

@izabel
I see you sure are going through a difficult time. It's wonderful that you have your husband there to help you just like I'm here to help my husband. We have just been taking day by day. Some days are better then others.

We did go see the ortho Dr yesturday and he removed the stitches. My husband is relieved on that. We asked him about him stepping down on his left foot (like he did when he lost his balance twice yesturday morning) he said that was ok with the spacer in. He would rather have him do that then to fall. But he absolutely wants no weight bearing on his left leg. The reason for no weight bearing is because the spacer can crumble which makes it much harder to get out and if it crumbles it's creates a whole new problem. But my husband goes back to see him again Dec 4th and has to take another hip replacement class on Jan 4th and see the Drs again. He has another asparation scheduled for Jan 22nd and if no infection and all is good his new hip goes in Jan 31st. Even tho these dates are a couple months away I'm just glad they are scheduled.
Thanks for thinking of us. I will be thinking of you all as well.

Hi my husband had right hip replaced in March 2014 and left hip replaced on January 2015 and rods with screws in his back. He was doing very good. Everybody said they could not even tell he had his hips replaced. In August of this year he said he had some pain in his left hip, he was due for a follow up here in December anyway. I called ortho and made an appointment. They took a xray and wanted to do a hip asparation and put a steroid in the tenion to see if that would help. We went back a week later for the test results and his levels were so high to which the Dr new he had a infection and said he wanted to do surgery the next day. So Oct 26th he had the replacement hip removed and a spacer put in. He is now non weight bearing on left leg for 3 months and iv antibiotics (Vancomycin ) for 6 wks then the new is to be put back in. But how do they know if the infection is gone? And I'm worried because the Dr said no weight at all on left leg and he lost his balance and stepped down on his left foot twice this morning, will this create a problem with the spacer?
