It’s been six years since my left hip replacement, and eighteen years today since my right hip was replaced.

It hasn’t affected my performance at my job as I am a teacher, and I also use a motorized wheelchair. So, I use it in the classroom when I feel that the pain is too unbearable.

When I went to my follow-up with my surgeon at the Mayo Clinic in August. To see what was causing me to have pain in my left hip. He discovered that the reason why I was having the severe hip pain in my left hip replacement was due to bursitis. His resident injected me with a steroid right into the spot where it was hurting. But, now two months later. The bursitis is back. Which is strange. Thinking about going to one of the local orthopedic doctors at the clinic I go to here at home where I live to see if another steroid injection will help. The pain is leaving me fully dependent on my power wheelchair again because it hurts to walk.

Came in yesterday with pain. Saw my hip surgeon. He gave me a cortisone shot in my hip, and it immediately felt so much better. That was the cause of my pain. I was scared that my left hip replacement was either loosening, or it had an infection.

Going to go see family in Colorado, for the next five days before heading back home. I don’t have to come back to Mayo, for another two years, or so. Unless something changes.

I’ve been experiencing it since June. My surgeon is hard to get an appointment with. But, I am thankful I don’t have to wait much longer now to see him.

I’ve been feeling tired a lot of the time. Sometimes the pain keeps me up at night.

On this day next week. My mom, and I will be flying out to Rochester to go to Mayo to see my hip surgeon, and back specialist. I’m feeling scared as the pain in my left hip from my hip replacement six years ago is becoming unbearable to deal with. My right hip replacement is doing so well after seventeen years. I’ve been wondering if this is the warning about the possibility of an infection my surgeon was talking about when he was very hesitant to do the second hip replacement surgery on me. But, according to my before-the-left-hip replacement surgery. He saw that he had no choice, but to proceed with doing it.

When he had got in, and saw how badly my left hip was damaged. He saw that I was right.

When my mom doesn’t rent a car. We fly into the Rochester airport. They have a shuttle service that can take you from the airport to one of the hotels near Mayo. My mom, and I just called them to make a reservation for when we come to Rochester on the 28th. It’s not GoRochester Direct that serves the Minneapolis airport. It’s another one. It has a similar name.
