May 25, 2018 · BPPV questions in Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT)

sorry for late reply. I've had these things called 'gromits' (tiny plastic rings in my ears) put in when I was about 7 or 8, but I can't remember what for, and they didn't do anything really at all. I've had many checks when I was younger including MRIs but I don't think the doctors understood what I really needed to be checked for

I’ve had a vertigo/bppv type thing for as long as I could remember (2 years old or even earlier) I’m now 15yrs old (female) and still have it but only about 1 attack a year now (By ‘have it’ I mean side effects like I have felt ‘off balance’ every day since I was little and now I’ve just gotten used to it it’s part of my normal life.) When attacks happen, I get really dizzy almost fainting and vomiting too and I have to lie down for like a day.
A few causes of my 'attacks':
– When I was 5, I went on a ride that went upside down at Disneyland and got one. Sucked cause I had to lie in bed for a day
– At swimming lessons/in pool I have got one about 3x. I HATE swimming cause of this
– I randomly got one one night, I had been feeling off all day and it worsened gradually
– Doing turns in ballet one day when I was about 7 and nearly got one. (I had to quit ballet at 9)
– Last time I had one was last April 2017, in a pool. For the past few years there has been a year's gap between them, I am really scared the next will come soon
Numerous MRIs, doctors, when I was younger, haven’t helped at all. They were useless really, and everybody thought it was a migraine but I have never felt any pain. I can’t play hockey properly cause of this – everybody wonders why I haven't improved after 7 years of playing. I really want to do figure skating instead but I can’t because of this stupid thing, same with swimming. My family doesn’t know I feel this way or at least they wont understand. Does anybody have any ideas what it might be…I wish it could go away for good. It affects me when I turn or lie down most of all (I'm ok with it when sleeping though), so if I skated I wouldn’t be able to perform the turns or anything. Same with swimming. It flares up most when I do lots of turning or exercise. I REAALLLLYY want to do figure skating like REAAALLY badly but I can't because of this 🙁
p.s I am also classified as underweight (170cm, 42-43kgs) but it's just genetics, and I was born 4 weeks early and am a twin, so not sure if being skinny has anything to do with this. I eat a lot as well. Why did I have to be the messed up twin haha, my sister (who is even smaller than me) still does ballet and is very good at it. She has none of these problems whatsoever. Not that she knows I have them
