Nov 5, 2017 · Link between Seroquel and Heart Problems? in Mental Health

My psychiatrist put me on Seroquel approximately 4-5 years ago, on a low dose of 100mg, as a sleep aid.
Apparently it is used as an anti-psychotic in high doses, however in low doses it can be used as a sleep aid because of its anti-histamine properties (that are found in allergy pills for example that make you sleepy).

Fast forward to this past June, and I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Congestive Heart Failure, the “idiopathic cardiomyopathy” kind, idiopathic meaning the doctors don’t know how or why I now have this. It came on VERY suddenly.

I was hospitalized for a week, all of the ‘usual’ tests, and I was free of any clots or blockages. My ejection fraction was 20-25%.
Trying to find a cause:
A virus? I haven’t been sick in a long time, not even a cold.
I have never smoked or used illicit drugs; I have maybe a dozen alcoholic drinks per year, and there is no history of heart failure in my family. So they went through all of my current meds to see if there was a cause.
I have been on Seroquel (100mg), Clonazepam as needed, Wellbutrin, and Citalopram (20mg) for years.
After the doctors did some quick research, the Cardiologist took me off the Seroquel immediately, saying heart failure was a possible side effect, however extremely small the chance might be.

My psychiatrist has since told me “it’s not the Seroquel”.

It’s a long shot, but has anyone been told their Seroquel use led to heart failure?

Thank you for any help.

Nov 5, 2017 · Morning Anxiety in Depression & Anxiety

Hello anniegk,
I just came across this topic now.

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about.
When I was deepest in my last bout of Panic disorder, PTSD, major depressive disorder, which lasted for over 5 years, I woke up at about 3am ( if I even got to sleep) in a panic attack. If it didn’t start at 3am, then it did start right when my alarm woke me up. I couldn’t even get out of bed. I had to call work, say I was sick, then I would finally sleep like me a baby. I did go on long term disability, like I said for over 5 years, but I would dream of having to get up in time for work and wake up in a panic attack. Even though I’ve mostly recovered from that bout, and have been back to work for a year now, I have woken up with anxiety and couldn’t get out of bed , but only maybe 2 or 3 times.
I’m still on psych meds, but it was counselling, meds, and TIME that pulled me through.

Sep 26, 2017 · Meditation prior to sleep in Sleep Health

Hello pollingtest1,
Have you had a sleep test to see if you have apnea? Your doctor will have to refer you. But in the mean time, you can try this cool ( free) app “Do I Snore?” that will record any sounds you make through the night. It will record another person too or even a pet, so you may need to try it on your own.

Also, I listen to guided imagery for sleep when I’m all tucked into bed.
I love Belleruth Naparstec’s imagery.
She has imagery for a lot of different ailments.

Sep 12, 2017 · What has Bipolar not done to your life? in Mental Health

Hello again, lilgrizz!
I hope you are well today……one day at a time, eh ? ( yes, Canadians even write “eh”!)
I’ve been telling myself to get into the shower and get dressed for more than a few days now. I took the sheets off my bed to get washed, to go to bed fresh and clean. Well that didn’t even work…no shower last night, plus I took one of the sheets back upstairs to sleep on and just a blanket over top. I think these are signs my depression is creeping around again.
It would take a few posts ( like you said in your first post) to explain all of my ailments, and why I feel connected to you.
I’ve suffered from Major Depressive Disorder, Seasonal Affect Disorder, PTSD, Agoraphobia. I was off of work for 5 1/2 years, and stuck in indescribable darkness. This past November, I finally recovered and even went back to work for 7 months before getting whomped with heart failure landing me right back at home!
Wow, that’s a lot of life in just a few lines!
I need to go for now, because for some reason I think I want to go take that shower!!

How are you doing today lilgrizz?
I’m thinking about you, wondering how your Tuesday went !
I had my first heart clinic appointment this morning, and stressed about it the whole night prior. I think my new ( and now second) cardiologist is going to take good care of me. He is sooo young! Do you feel that way about some of your professional help?!
When I got up this morning, my old anxiety issues popped up, I checked my phone for messages to see if he might have cancelled so I wouldn’t have to go.
I have Stage 4 congestive heart failure, with no cause yet, but the four heart pills seem to be keeping me symptom free. Yeah!
I hope it’s ok that I’m checking in with you….I hope you have a good Wednesday!
