Aug 30, 2017 · Possible causes of MAC/MAI Re-Infections in MAC & Bronchiectasis

I’m checking in to say that I am “temporarily cured” of my symptoms! Not coughing up anything and feel well! This is after 2 rounds of antibiotics which killed the resident bacteria. I am well aware that I still have bronchiectasis and am very much at risk for reinfection, but I am enjoying my respite. I know that I am one of the fortunate ones….I had MAC in 2001 with treatment that worked. I’ve had lots of bronchitis and pneumonias over the years, as we traveled a lot and I was exposed to lots of bacteria and viruses. The latest infections started last year and I was diagnosed variously with asthma, chronic bronchitis, and COPD, but it’s just the bronchiectasis and bacterial infections. Keep asking for sputum cultures! I will be 90 in December and have outlasted the MAC. The doctor says that pneumonia will probably do me in eventually, but so far so good. I’ve had a great life! robynmar

Aug 28, 2017 · Bronchiectasis and skin problems like psoriasis? Any connection? in MAC & Bronchiectasis

I have bronchiectasis with a history of MAC and lung infections. Now I have large flaking spots on my body that my dermatologist called “old age spots”. It looks like psoriasis to me. Does anybody have this? Is there a connection? robynmar

Aug 28, 2017 · Low grade fevers with flu-like symptoms in MAC & Bronchiectasis

I’m answering my own question: fever and chills is a symptom of bronchiectasis. I have been through 2 cycles of antibiotics and am symptom free! Even the low grade fever is gone. I’m enjoying my new health and can only hope that it stays. robynmar

Aug 22, 2017 · How is everybody doing? in MAC & Bronchiectasis

I am having low grade fevers with flu symptoms every day and feel sick. My MAC seems to be inactive. Been through Bactrin and Cipro so the bacteria should be gone. Could be inflammation? My doctors seem unsure what to do. Has anyone else had this? robynmar

Aug 20, 2017 · Low grade fevers with flu-like symptoms in MAC & Bronchiectasis

Has anyone had intermittent low grade fevers (under 99 degrees) with flu-like symptoms of chills and body aches? Mine last about 2 hours and sometimes I have two or more@ during the day. These low grade fevers are a symptom of MAC, but my MAC is quiescent and other bacteria (Proteus, etc) have been treated with Bactrin and Cipro. These fevers knock me out. I would guess that there is some underlying infection somewhere as the antibiotics suppress them. My doctors seem unfamiliar with them. The options are to wait and see or start multidrug therapy which is not appealing. robynmar

Aug 13, 2017 · How is everybody doing? in MAC & Bronchiectasis

Hi everyone! I just completed my second round of antibiotics for bacteria in my lungs, and they didn’t work. I first was on Bactrin, then Cipro. I had 2 days of feeling well, then my low grade, 99 degree temp came back with its aches and chills. It arrives at 5 pm and lasts about 2 hours. I will report this to my Infectious Diseases doctor and he will probably want to put me on another antibiotic. Does anyone know of a drug that doesn’t cause diarrhea? I’m sure he will want to treat this. robynmar

Yes. If your cancer is hormone receptive, this will block the enabling hormones. It doesn’t work for everyone; it didn’t work for my current husband’s late wife. As far as I know, they are still using it, just not as long as I took it. Robyn
