@emewood, I can really relate to your story. I was diagnosed when I was 18 and I am now 20. I was starting my freshman year in college. I have since left school because it was just too difficult and stressful to be there. I am now taking classes (mostly online) and living at home. My symptoms never included bleeds but I have had discomfort and pain every single day. I have tried many medications/steriods for the collagen and my various symptoms but to date, nothing has helped except for pantoprazole which has kept my heartburn under control for the most part. My GI is firm in believing that food does not play a part in how I am feeling. I cut out fried, spicy, acidic and rich foods 2 years ago and do not drink caffeine. I tried gluten free for a period of time even though I am not celiac. It seems as though you truly believe that a change in diet made an enormous difference. May I ask how long it took with the diet until she felt it was working?

I also get car sick and always sit in the front seat. I had not heard anyone else mention this symptom. Can you recommend a ginger product that she has had luck with?

Also, I have decided, just like your daughter, that I would like to be a pediatric nurse and will be applying to nursing programs this year. Our experiences make us uniquely qualified and I wish her the very best in pursuing this goal.

I eliminated spicy foods, acidic foods and fried foods several years ago and continue to do so more for heartburn than stomach ache issues. I tried a gluten free diet for 6 weeks but found there was no change in my symptoms. I find that I can eat a particular food several times with no problem, but that same food can cause severe stomach aches and pressure along my digestive tract the next time I eat it. There is no consistency with food and symptoms.

Although I have been told to limit ibuprofen, I find that that is the only thing that helps the leg aches and I take it when they are bad. It provides relief. I was not aware that others had mentioned the muscle aches so I appreciate your response @kellye5

@kellye5 I also have leg pain/aches and have not heard anyone else complain about these. Is there anything that helps you with this or have any doctors made any recommendations for the leg aches? The drs I have seen who know about cg do not believe that the leg pain is associated with it. Thank you.

Mirtazapine was one of the anti-depressants that I tried but was unable to continue. The worst side effect for me was drowsiness that lasted well into the afternoon even after taking it for quite some time. I was only on 1/2 pill of the lowest dose but I could not get through the day without long naps. I am hoping you have better success with it.

I am curious what antidepressant you are trying. I have tried several over the last 2 years for their digestive effects but the side effects have been too severe and I have not been able to stay on any of them. I hope you have better luck with them.

Has anyone tried or had luck with the over the counter FDgard or IBgard capsules?

@kellye5 I have had numerous tests over the last year and a half and I would be glad to honestly share my experiences with the tests that could benefit your son. If you want to provide me with test names I can provide you with info over a personal message. Not only have I only seen GI at mayo but I have seen many other departments there as well but none of the others have provided useful information
