Mar 30, 2017 · Severe GERD in Digestive Health

Okay, so much for posting 6 days acid free. It came back and my suffering is back for the last 4 days, even though I haven’t changed anything. Here’s my question: When I am suffering… it is almost constant… 24/7. Eating is my trigger… not eating is my trigger. Some foods are worse but almost all foods are triggers. Is this heartburn if it’s constant? Either I’m doing well or I’m not doing well. To all those posting, what is it if it’s almost constant? Anything that helps like Chamomile tea or DGL tablets or anything only help a little and only for a short while.

How did you develop the program, quantities and amounts, of the supplements?

Update: I am now off all medications after surviving the unnecessary prescription for Omeprazole! It took trying MANY new things. I found that Zantac, Tums and other antacids only helped for a couple hours or so, and then the heat came back worse! My theory is that I actually have low acid and also that my GI tract was devoid of healthy bacteria, depleted from the Omeprazole and other drugs. I suffered with heat from my stomach to my voice box CONSTANTLY, only varying in heat level from 2 – 9 on a scale of 1-10. As of today, the heat in my esophagus has been gone for 6 days since I added Probiotics. I say that cautiously as I have a true fear of it returning. I still have a bit of a sore throat.

Here is my routine: Oatmeal with a bit of brown sugar and Maluka honey, just recently added 1/2 Cup Simply Smooth Folgers coffee (what a treat!) with lots of lactose free milk (and I take supplements, calcium citrate to help strengthen my LES, and Magnesium), Lunch is a smoothie made with Spinach, Kale, apple, grapes, Maluka honey, water & ice, to which I add the GNC Utra 100 Probiotic Complex (this is what finally dissipated the heat!) (and I take L-Glutamine as it helps heal your gut and strengthens the immune system.) Before dinner I drink a couple TBSPS of unpasteurized apple cider vinegar and Maluka Honey and then have a normal low-acid dinner. (Meat, and 2 vegatables) and I take a Betaine with Pepsin capsule with the meal (also to strengthen my LES) At bedtime I take 3 mg of Melatonin (also to strengthen my LES). I will keep you posted if the heat stays away and if my sore throat goes away. This has been hell, it is nice to start to feel better again. The problem is, I no longer trust doctors because of their rush to write a prescription. I will, however, keep an eye on the new surgeries to help hiatal hernia and GERD, especially the LINX procedure.

Just ran across some interesting information on using melatonin to treat GERD. Would like to know what the medical profession thinks of this.
There is a lot of information out there, this is one study I ran across:

I am now following a low acid diet. (wasn’t much I had to give up as I pretty much have always eaten a low acid diet) I am diagnosed with GERD and a small hiatal hernia. The confusing part for me is how suddenly this happened. I haven’t ever had any heartburn except a few bouts when I was pregnant more than 25 years ago. How can it be so sudden? and severe? This makes me think the hernia caused it whereas my doctor thinks it’s only contributing. The Prilosec doesn’t seem to be helping much. Zantac helps a little.

Do you need a referral to go to Mayo Clinic in Rodchester?

Thank you for your kind response. Yes, I have been diagnosed with Gerd and have changed my diet. Giving up what little I did that was bad 😉 I bought a cookbook and we are going to try the 2 week acid cleanse kick off. Taking my meds and doing everything I can to get healthy and cured.

Thank you and I do take calcium but I think I will increase the dosage, just to make sure.
