Nov 20, 2018 · Has anyone been diagnosed with a pilocytic astrocytoma as an adult? in Brain Tumor

@lynda1992
Thank you for responding. I have talked to my doctor at Mayo and she says it is safe, but it still scares me. Thankfully i'm not on any seizure medications. It will be 2 years next month since my tumor was fully resected. I am blessed with one child already, a 15 year old son. I always wanted more and am running out of time, I just turned 38 last month. I just wanted to see if someone else has had a baby without issue after going through what we went through. Like I said, I am blessed with one so maybe that should just be enough. Thank you again for your response.

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It will be two years next month since my diagnosis and surgery. You are definitely at the right place. Mayo clinic is ranked number 1 in the world for a reason. I had 2 other hospitals tell me my tumor was inoperable and Mayo clinic completely removed it. I went on to finish my Doctorate and am now a Nurse Practitioner. I recommend Mayo to all of my patients that have a serious condition.

They say our type of tumor is rare in adults, but I talk to 2 women in my local area alone that had one recently. Maybe we had them since childhood and did not know. I would definitely stick with Mayo. If you ever need to talk or just need to vent I'm always here. I know first hand how scary this can be.

If you don't mind me asking a personal question.. Did you have children after your diagnosis? I am wanting to have a baby, but scared that it will put me at a greater risk of recurrence. Just curious if other women have had babies after having their pilocytic astrocytoma removed.

Just wondering how your daughter is doing? Was her surgery a success?

Mar 20, 2018 · Surgery risk on a 65 year old male with glioma grade II in Brain Tumor

I'm so sorry you're having so many issues. I can tell you it has been 15 months since my surgery and I'm still not 100% and may never be, but I'm alive and for that I am so grateful. I've talked to several people that have gone through brain tumor removal and they say it takes about 2 years to really start feeling like yourself again. I will keep you in my prayers for complete healing xoxo I'm happy to hear that they were able to remove your tumor.

Mar 12, 2018 · Surgery risk on a 65 year old male with glioma grade II in Brain Tumor

Hello. I'm sorry to hear that your loved one is faced with this decision. Can you give more information such as where the tumor is located and how big it is? I can tell you that I was told by two different doctors that my brain tumor was inoperable because of where it was located. They both suggested that we just monitor the tumor. It was at that point that i sought out a third opinion at Mayo clinic and I thank God that I did. I had my first appointment on December 28th 2016 and had brain surgery December 30th 2016. They were able to safely remove my tumor plus a large margin around it. They ended up taking half of my temporal lobe. I was discharged home 48 hours after surgery and was back to full time doctoral classes 11 days later. I cannot speak highly enough about Mayo clinic. If mayo clinic is suggesting surgery to remove this tumor then I absolutely think that is the best option. These low grade tumors can change into high grade tumors so they need to be removed asap. If you have any questions at all please feel free to reach out to me xoxo I know first hand how difficult this is, but there is hope.

Sep 15, 2017 · What to do with a "glioma" grade I , if Doctors are confused in Brain Tumor

I am sorry to hear of your recent health changes. I too had a tumor in my right temporal lobe. I had it successfully removed 8 months ago at the Mayo clinic in Rochester. I ended up having half of the lobe removed. If you move forward with surgery you should definitely have it done at Mayo. I know how scary this can be and am here if you need to talk to someone. I will message you my phone number. You can call me anytime =)

Nancy,
I was discharged home 48 hours after surgery. I had a very blessed recovery. Dr. Burns is the best, she is in great hands. Please do not hesitate to text or call me. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know xoxo
