Sun, Jan 27 10:42am · Nissen Fundoplication reversal in Digestive Health

My 22 year old son had a NF wrap that was too tight. He had the dilation with only 24 hour's of relief. If the wrap is too tight dilation will not help! Think a tight rubber band.
Dr. Steven Bowers at the Mayo in Jacksonville. Tore down the NF wrap and did the Linxs device. However, unbeknown to Dr. Bowers or us. My son's body makes very fibrous scar tissue. Now 2 year's later only two of the 12 bead's are working. He lost so much weight he has SMA.syndrone, had the by pass surgery to go around the dueduom. Which helped take his pain level down from a 10 to a 5… Most of the time after eating. His food gets stuck for 20 minutes or longer before finally dropping into his stomach. He's had a feeding tube for 2 year's now. Will probably live the rest of his life with a G tube. As he will never be cured from the SMA. He's unable to work currently and desperately trying to get SSDI
Back story, he was born with a problem with his esophagus spinchter and was 11 months old when he had his first Nissan fundoliplication.
That 2nd wrap in 2014 destroyed his life. He's been in severe pain ever since.
Meeting Dr Bowers at the Mayo saved good life. However, we now accept he will never have a normal life.
I personally would never suggest to anyone a NF!
However, they can reverse the NF! seriously anyone that can get to Jacksonville FL to the Mayo and see Dr. Bowers! He's the best surgeon ever!

Hi, do you know if they have looked at her esophagus when she swolows food?
My son who is 22 was born with a problem between the spinchter and esophagus. He's had Nissan fundoliplication and Linxs magnetic bead's. He was diagnosed with SMA almost two years ago. He has a feeding tube and had DDJ surgery done back in August of 2017. Which significantly lowered his SMA pain. However, not take it away completely.
He's lost another 8 pounds in 6 months. He is 5"11 and weighs 114 .
We understand, no cure for this. Managing as best as you can.
She may need to stay away from breads, dry meats, anything too dry to be eat.
Good luck. Please let us know how she is doing.

Yes he is. When I saw him last August 2017. He said he was with my son until he's 100 percent well. Not many surgeon's care as much as he does. And Jenna his nurse! The best ever!

My son had a Nissan fundoliplication in 2014 and it started a living hell. The wrap was too tight and no matter how many dialitions were done (as it was explained when the wrap is too tight it's like trying to stretch a rubber band)! It won't work. He lost significant weight which has caused more health problems. I would encourage you to see if you can get to a Mayo clinic. My son's surgeon is awesome, Dr. Steven Bowers in Jacksonville. He undid the wrap and did the Linxs. You are able to eat and in fact must eat the day of surgery to keep the magnetic beads moving and not be taken over my scar tissue. My son due to losing so much weight now has a feeding tube and Dr. Bowers diagnosed with him SMA syrndorme. However, unbeknownst to any of us including Dr. Bowers. My 21 year old son's body makes very fibrous tough scar tissue. Therefore, only 2 out of 13 beads are currently moving and he still has difficulty swallowing and always will for the rest of his life. Which means he may have a feeding tube for the rest of his life too. But he's a different case. I would highly encourage you to find someone to talk with that knows intensive about the NF wrap and the augmentation of the Linxs. You can YouTube, Dr. Steven Bowers discussing the Linxs device.
Good luck!
Carolyn

My son does not want to take pain pills at all. So he is going into the prone position after eating and lying down and virtually just dealing with it. The past couple of days he is not tolerating his feedings and having more increased pain.
