Description
Cesar Keller, M.D., a transplant physician at Mayo Clinic in Florida talks with Richard Oppelt, the first patient to receive a lung transplant at Mayo Clinic’s Florida campus and his wife and caregiver, Janice Oppelt.
Mr. Oppelt, who suffered from silicosis, received his transplant on June 7, 2001, and has since walked two daughters down the aisle, blown out numerous birthday candles, and helped other transplant patients through the recovery process. Over 500 patients have received lung transplants at the Florida medical center, and that number is expected to drastically increase over the coming years, thanks to a collaboration between Mayo Clinic and United Therapeutics.
Dr. Keller and Mr. Oppelt answered questions related to lung transplantation.
Here's an article about Mr. Oppelt:

What a story! First breathe after lung transplant was to blow out a candle on a cake the health team brought to Richard! Best. Cake. Ever!
