My husband is 80 and has Vascular Dementia. He is also recovering from surgery for a pacemaker because he has issues with his heart. He is still able to drive and goes shopping by himself. He is aware of his memory loss but his doctor has given him the most potent meds available but no change has happened. He needs to be in memory care but we don’t have enough assets to pay for that care. He recently has spent money on cars and tools and we are almost down to only our SS payments. We still have to pay for our house and car.

The irony in attending a support group for caregivers when you are caregiving during the time frame of the group.

Janet, talk to an elderly lawyer. I know it will be pricey but it may help with what steps to do to get your husband on some sort of Medicade . Is he a Veteran? I know that they have some help. I am so sorry that you are going through this.

I have thought about calling our lawyer and with your suggestion, I will do that.
Thank you, Janet
