“Cancer” is often thought of as a single disease but in reality it’s comprised of over 200 differing types of cancers. Cancer is defined by uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells that can invade and damage the body’s normal healthy tissues. Some are aggressive and fast growing and some less aggressive and slow growing, some cancers are found early and some in very advanced stages. Many factors are considered when deciding the type of treatment for each type of disease. This session will provide an introductory level overview of what cancer is, how it develops and behaves, some known causes, how cancers are named, how it’s treated and common terminology.
