Zytiga and Lupron Shot
My 89-year-old father was on Orgovx but his PSA went up so they started him on 4 250mg per day along with a prednisone pill and every 12 weeks a Lupron shot.
He was tired and weak with the Orgovx but seems to be more tired and weaker and more nauseated now and is wanting to give up and go off all meds stating he is just tired of not being able to do anything b ut lay on the couch.
Does anyone know of anyone who just went off all meds and what happens at that point? His PSA started at 5600 and is now down to 537 so he has a ways to go to get it down. Thanks in advance

I have no experience or familiarity with what to do at those PSA levels.
However, there is a virtual prostate cancer support group meeting on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 (ET) at this Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82817487939
There are a couple of guys who regularly attend that virtual meeting who had PSAs higher than your father’s initial PSA.
That would be a great place to ask your question and get experienced responses from guys who have been there.
For somebody that age Zytiga is a very poor choice. It would guarantee much more fatigue for somebody that age.
It sounds like you are working with a Doctor that is not very experienced in Prostate cancer treatment of the elderly.
You need to tell your doctor you want to talk about switching from Zytiga to Darolutamide. There are four drugs that patients get in the condition your father is in. The drug with the least side effects is Darolutamide. It will make a big difference for your father.
If the doctor won’t go along with it, you need to get yourself a second opinion/doctor. Any experience doctor that really knows prostate cancer would have no problem with somebody 89 years old going on Darolutamide rather than Zytiga. Going to a center of excellence or finding a Genito urinary oncologist Would be the best thing to do and they would definitely get your father off of Zytiga.
Thank you so much for this helpful information.
