Zinc deficiency

Posted by wilks13 @wilks13, Mar 19 8:58am

I just found out that I am deficient in zinc. I have had gut issues for about a year. Ranging from gurgling to stomach aches to Sleep issues to sudden food sensitivities after my doctor had put me on a omeprazole for Four months. I just had her run my vitamins the other day as we have exhausted most other tests. We found that I am deficient in zinc. Anyone else here have this issue which is related to gastrointestinal Issues?

Do a search for what foods are high in Zinc. I did and found a lot of them such as red meat, lobster, crab, poultry etc. and more. Eating food that has a lot of Zinc in it might be a good added thing to your vitamins.

@wilks13 that is interesting! Please keep us posted on how you are doing after supplementing with zinc for a few weeks! I have all your symptoms so I, for one, definitely would be interested.

That’s just it I eat zinc rich foods. I feel like my body is not absorbing, zinc for some reason.

@wilks13 no, I have not been on Omeprazole but am on Lansoprazole, the generic brand for Prevacid, which also is a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) just like Omeprazole.

Yes, this has happened to me. I had loose stools for months which caused malabsorption. My zinc was depleted as well as phosphorus, low iron/Ferritin. Months later I discovered additional deficiencies that I wish had been caught earlier. I took 30 mg of zinc daily and have been for 4 months, zinc levels now almost restored. If your Dr. recommended supplementing, make certain you balance it with copper. I learned the hard way how crucial balance is. Also, if you can request a Zinc RBC/Intracellular test, that gives a more accurate account of your zinc levels. Serum labs only see what's circulating in your blood rather than your cellular levels which is needed to identify a more stable and longer term view of your zinc stores

I'll add one more comment because it sounds like you need help with your gut issues. I started a protocol of seed probiotics (half dose) saccharomyces boulardii mos and digestive enzymes with ox bile. This is the recipe that worked for me to finally restore my gut function. If you can see a GI specialist, to rule out and identify causes etc, that's the most crucial piece. You need to have a functioning gut so your nutrients are absorbed properly. Maybe also request a fatty acid panel. Mine ended up being dysregulated due to months of gut dysfunction and nutrient deficiencies. Hope that helps

Hi,
Perhaps you should see your doctor about this. Also pray about it. God is there for us if we just ask. He made you and he can fix you!
I wish you the best and will say a prayer for you!

My husband was on Omeprazole but Dr changed to Fomadine. Has lots of bowel issues. Also taking Preservation Ayreds 2 for retina repair. I noticed that it has Zinc and I think he is getting overdosed . Just changed primary doctor at VA clinic. Pharmacy appointment coming up will address. Thank you for your post
