Worsening of pain (arthritis)
I have pain in my left hand, at the base of my left thumb. I was managing it with Blue Emu per Dr Phil. It worked fine until now. I know arthritis is not curable but does anyone have any advice about things to try? I've seen the omega XL commercial. Does anyone out there have any experience with these pills or have heard anything about them?

@joycelowe1, how long have you had arthritis? What does your doctor recommend?
Good Morning joycelowe1. Sorry to hear you are having this prob. It sounds like your "basal thumb arthritis" has gotten to the point you need more aggressive treatment. See an ortho doc, preferably one who specializes in hand treatment. He may want to splint it and or prescribe anti-inflammatory meds or give you an injection. If none of these work it may require surgery. Mine did, and it took care of the problem. Hope you get some relief soon.

arthritis

Does anyone have recommendations for arthritic pain medications?

@nazleer I'm assuming you have arthritis. You'll notice I moved your question to an existing discussion. I did this so you could read the previous posts on the subject in a central location and connect with members.
May I ask if you take any type medication for arthritis now?
I have basal thumb arthritIs, but it was manageable until a few weeks ago. I saw my rheumatologist and he says I have a ruptured tendon in my thumb because I cannot bend the joint at the end of my thumb. I did not feel any pain, just picked up a pencil to write and could not hold it to write. He is sending me to a hand surgeon, but my appointment is not until January 19. The pain in my thumb is getting worse everyday and now my index finger is involved also....it feels like electric shocks are running through it. Wrist hurts also. Because of holidays I have t been not able to get in with my doctor. I am worried about the length of time it’s taking to get the tendon repaired. My neighbor is a physical therapist and he says it needs to be done soon or the repair may not be as successful. I am taking gabapentin because I think it may be nerve pain. Especially in the index finger. Any ideas as to what I should do? I’m calling the rheumatologist Monday to see if he can get my appointment with the surgeon moved up.
I had this years ago. They first gave me a brace that immobilized my thumb, which helped to a degree but was temporary until I had surgery. The surgery was very successful, the recovery period not excessive. I developed a ‘trigger finger’ issue later that was solved with a cortisone shot. It’s lasted for years and was probably the most successful surgery I’ve had. Just go straight for it - nothing else is a solution. Good luck!
