Why I cant get into ketosis?
Hi! I having doing 100 days of carnivore diet (O carbs) and intermittent fasting mostly 16:8 and some days 24 hs and I started to measure my ketones levels in my blood and even after running my glucose is 113 mg/dl and my ketones 0,3 mmo/l!! I can’t understand it!!
Before this diet I have been doing paleo diet very low carb (no starch vegetables and zero fruits) and my training was similar (running swimining and weightlifting).
In this sense, I would like to clear up what would be happening in my body? Maybe I am producing glucose through glucogenesis and that is preventing me from producing ketones? If so I should restrict my protein intake as well? My regular macros are mostly 58/60% fat 42/40% from protein but this last two days when I started to measure my ketones levels I eat 81% fat anf 19% protein.
Thanks!!

@anacarnivore forgive my ignorance but I don’t understand why you would want to get into ketosis. As a 50ish years of diabetes I have experienced diabetic ketoacidosis and it can be life threatening. Isn’t ketosis similar? It was explained to me that carbohydrates are the first choice of fuel for the body. If you can’t metabolize carbs, the body turns to fats. Ketones are the by product of burnt up fat and can be toxic (life threatening). It seems like it could be tempting to get rid of fat as a weight loss strategy but there must be better ways IMHO. Do you have a professional supervising this diet?
@anacarnivore: Could you be Diabetic? This happened to me when I tried Atkins Diet and it was because my body was resistant. I tested positive for Diabetes. I would see my doc right away for lab tests. Trying to loose weight by flooding your body with protein could permanently cause you harm. Just my 2cents…
