why do I have burning in the pectoral muscle?
I have had burning in the left pectoral muscle that comes and goes for about 4 months. Went to the Dr. he wasn't sure what it could be that I can take Aleve or other pain medication as needed for the pain. It is not heartburn nor do I believe it's a pulled muscle (usually they cause pain and discomfort) just because it burns. Feels like fire in the muscle when it flares up. I am a 64 yr. old male who still works full time and likes to work out 3x"s a week. Please note when I first noticed the burn I was not working out due to a benign tumor on my knee that I had
removed. Looking for answers. Thank you

Has your doctor suggested an ultrasound of the painful area? It would show if there is something unusual there that might be causing the pain.
No he hasn't but that sounds like a good start.
Thank you
Ultrasound and chest x-ray could be helpful. Was your doctor confident
it was not heart related.?
If it a form of neuralgia how did it start? Any pain to suggest it may have been shingles without the rash.
Make sure you get fully tested and have an ECG.
They ran an ECG and it came back normal. Would shingles last that long? As far as neuralgia goes, the pain from this is more of a "shocked sensation" (from what I read) where this is a burn, feels like someone started a fire in the muscle. To be honest my Dr. wasn't much help in the diagnoses, that's why I'm asking questions. I guess the next step is to get a second opinion. I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.
Thanks and have a great day.
Hello, I just came on and noticed your post when I was scrolling down. I too have burning in my pectoral muscle muscle into my armpit, and in my arm to my elbow. I have been to every doctor that I have my shoulder doctor has been zero help after a shoulder replacement three years ago. Mine started with burning in the armpit. The neurologist thought it was brachial plexus, but that’s not it. I’m assuming that wouldn’t be what you have either. I really like the idea of an ultrasound. Good luck to you!
I had revision surgury 11/23 on my left hip, I am scheduled for rev surgery on my RT hip (Co , Cr issues)
During my recovery for my Left hip my Rt hip upper thigh muscle was ON FIRE ! Normally when I was in bed , I was lying flat on my back and I would make a move , it started , way worse pain than the surgical side.
My ortho attributed it to nerve issues ? Whatever that means? It's pretty much subsided after 6-7 wks from surgery date. We will see when I have rev surgery on my RT side 3/24.
