Whipple surgery with no chemo.

I had Whipple surgery about 8 months ago. Still having some complications, like dumping syndrome, diabetes. Does anyone eat and drink at same time? Also what do you drink.

I had my whipple surgery done on May 2020. You need to take care of your diet ie less oil, spicy food, cheese or taking half boil eggs to minimise dumping. Occasionally still experiencing it.

Hello @usaf,

If you are still having issues with eating, you might want to ask for a referral to the hospital dietitian. I have had three surgeries of the upper digestive tract, and I have met with a hospital dietician twice. Dieticians are unsung heroes for any patient who has had surgery involving the digestive tract.

Have you met with a dietitian yet?

I’m really not having a problem eating. Just was told not to drink liquids with my meals. Also having issues gaining weight. Have talked to a dietitian, they put me on a different protein shake twice a day about 2 or 3 weeks ago, not seeing much improvement. As far as drinking goes, I mostly drink water, or put electrolyte powder in once a day. Occasionally I have an unsweetened iced tea, or black coffee.

Did you have any chemotherapy? How about weight loss? I have learned what I can and cannot eat, dumping not a big issue. Are you still on creon?

Hi Usaf
Mine was Neuroendocrine Gastrinoma tumor & no chemo was ordered. Stopped taking Creon after the 1st 6 months of whipple surgery. Removed the head of pancreas but retained body & tail. I wasn’t losing weight but occasionally still experiencing different symptoms. I have no issue to drink water with my meal. Have tried to eat smaller portions with more intervals to minimise gastric reflux.
