When to go to Dr after fall

I know this site is more about meds for osteoporosis, but I thought y’all could help a little…. I fell the other day. I don’t THINK I broke anything, however, I didn’t know I had 2 spinal compression fractures before either. Pretty bad back pain& a hip that keeps me awake, but I’m walking fine. (Back pain in past comes and goes from ‘other’ issues that all of us probably have. ) My daughter thinks I should go to Dr…. I told her I can’t go to Dr every time I get bruised.

szark55, It would be wise to have an MRI. You might request the MRI by phone or by my chart. If there is another compression fracture or hip fracture you may be able to stabilize it and prevent longer term or permanent pain. I'm hoping you are just bruised, but also hope you don't risk it.
We like all kinds of questions. I'm tempted to turn this into an answer about osteoporosis testing and medication.

Thank you. I will consider your suggestion for sure.

If a bone is broken, knowledge is always power. And you will not know unless testing is done. Then you can collect options and with the help of your healthcare pros, and make good choices.

Thank you. I did get X-rays, waiting for results.

If I remember correctly, compression fractures often reveal themselves on plain X-ray

szark: I agree that you can't go to the doctor every time you are bruised but I do think, b/c you have osteoporosis, you should go to the doctor every time you fall. Each time I see my endocrinologist (every 6 months) her first question is, "Have you had any falls?" Her next question is, "Did you break any bones?" If I would not have visited my primary care doctor post-fall how could I answer the endo.'s question regarding if I broke any bones. I'm on Prolia and the endocrinologist has told me that if I break a bone I need to go off Prolia and on a bone building medication instead.

Back in 2021 I tripped and fell and hit my face. I was urged to go to the ER immediately, Especially if the head got hurt. I did. Everything was good (except for a couple of chipped teeth). However, the Dr. informed me that my brain tumor hadn’t grown much since 2006! What brain tumor? No one told me about it back in 2006. It was a blessing in disguise. Last year I had Gamma Knife for my Meningioma. Before I was always tripping and falling. Now I haven’t had one fall since the procedure. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Good luck.
