When is Cobalt level in blood so high to worry about?

I have both hips m o m hip replacements. At the time of surgery it was never discussed that Cobalt leaching was a problem nor that I needed blood tests to check levels. It was not until 16years later that I was informed of the problem when my Cobalt level was 12.0 o/o!! Needless to say I have a new Orthopedist but I'm concerned! Should I be?

A normal Cobalt level in one’s blood typically below 0.5 micrograms per liter. My wife had an elevated level of 17.9. Between an MRI and ultrasound they located a pool of fluid in both hips; left worse than right. The orthopedic surgeon did a revision on the left hip and the Cobalt level dropped to 11.3. Four years later, no symptoms, having an annual blood test and MRI it was determined that she had a failed implant on her right side, two staph infections. They had to remove the whole implant, medicated spacer for 8 weeks with port antibiotics and then a complete new implant; two year now. Memory was a big issue with my wife. If she had something she needed to say, she had to say it or would forget what she was going to say. I set up a log for medication or she would forget to take her medication. Things have improved but, but, what are the long term complications from Toxic levels of Cobalt / Chroumin levels?? You should be consulting an attorney ASAP. There are class action law suits against a lot of implants. Just be advised, legal experts take a good portion. They would need to identify your old components to support your case! Long story short, your levels are Way to high to be in any kind of “ Normal” range. I would get a second opinion if needed! Best of luck!
