What to wear to surgery for total shoulder replacement right arm

Posted by bjpotthoff @bjpotthoff, 1 day ago

I feel so dumb asking this question but I am 9 hours away from home for surgery. 50 year old female having surgery on 23rd. Not sure what to wear that is going to be comfortable after surgery. Right shoulder replacement and I am right handed. Also need something that is going to keep my modesty in mind. Thank you all in advance

Hello , I’m so sorry you are having to undergo this procedure , I wish you the best !

Stores that sell walkers/canes often have clothing that have snaps and are easy on and off .

Ask around where you are , you should be able to find something .

Blessings

I would get an oversized button up shirt, if you can't find anything better. But Google, magnetic closings for clothes. With those shirts, you just have to bring the 2 sides close to each other and they close. You can find shirts that have buttons on the front and look like normal shirts. But I would size up, just for ease of getting the shirt on and off.

I thought I was going to have to wear my button front shirts, but it turned out my everyday loose fitting stretchy T shirts with a low neck opening, V or boat neck, worked fine. You just work your cocked elbow TSR arm in first so the shirt is over your shoulder, then pull your head through the neck opening, and then put your good left arm in the arm hole and pull everything down. Not a problem with stretchy jersey type cloth. You can try this ahead of time and see if it works for you. If you are really concerned, then the velcro or snap shirts are a good idea. I had planned on ordering some ahead of time, but never got around to it, and after I was home didn't need them.

I am day 14 post surgery. Living in California, I've found strapless rompers, sundresses, jumpsuits to be my best and easiest go to clothing option. Amazon had many inexpensive selections. A shirt, sweater, can be added easily if you are in a cooler climate.
The snap or Velcro surgery shirts were what I initially used, and were also great to sleep in. (Amazon). Best of luck!
