@clarkb, how was your appointment? Do you have a treatment plan?
I was 74 when Diag. Now 77 after RALP and 2 years Lupron ADT (last shot last January). Now at 'negligible' PSA. Had large prostate with limited cancer (3 positive of 14 on biopsy) but aggressive near capsule border; border was positive. One spot of PC on rib. My Dad had PC at age 75; lived to 93 without more PC. Older bro had it at age 67 and had RALP and now doing fine 12 years on. Both my sons are in their 40's and are now checking PSA on a yearly basis under orders from me - dad.
Good luck to you and blessings for a long and happy life.
74 diagnosed, 77 now, G9, CR, locally advanced, 12 months ADT and Erleada, RP 24 months ago, presently PSA .01, hopeful.
I am 74 years old and I have been diagnosed with a mild form of prostrate cancer. I was told it is not an aggressive form of cancer.
70, started this adventure in 2009
76 now, was 72 when I received SBRT Proton treatment. Was 11+ PSA with a 4+3 Gleeson. PSA now < 0.1.
59
63 here , 3+3, and active surveillance
I'm sorry to hear about the diagnosis — it's a shock adjusting to living with cancer, especially for the first year or so. And I do hope health agencies reconsider the recommendation against routine PSA testing from age 40, because it's had a high human cost in rising rates of advanced prostate cancer at first diagnosis.
If your cancer is oligometastatic (just to a couple of places) and castrate-sensitive, there's a good chance they can at least pause it for a long time (if not indefinitely). There's lots of good information in threads here. Even if there are many metastases and/or the cancer is already castrate-resistant, newer treatments and approaches are showing a lot of promise.
I'm stage 4b, oligometastatic to my spine (we discovered it when I went to the ER because I was having trouble walking). I've had 2 1/2 years with no progression, after
1. Immediate emergency debulking surgery (to ease the pressure on my spinal cord)
2. Radiation to the metastasis site 4 weeks after diagnosis
3. Radiation to the prostate 6 months after diagnosis
4. Continual ADT and ARSI (Erleada) since diagnosis.
My PSA remains < 0.01 on the ultra-sensitive test — fingers crossed for the next 12-week test this coming Friday.
57 too! We are too young but Dr’s stopped DRE’s and PSA tests. Had to ASK my primary for a PSA test in January, came back @ 60. I’m stage 4 and headed to Rochester and Dr. Kwon Monday, hope the team can pause this!
