This has been our experience at Mayo Rochester too, since 2011, not only with Urology, but also with Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Radiation, Nuclear Medicine, ENT, Dermatology, Pulmonology. My husband can get appointments and procedures done there in a week or less that would take months or more in our local health care monopoly system. And of course everything is done with skill and compassion.
Colleen,
My wife and were AMAZED at the treatment we received at Mayo Rochester. It is beyond the gold standard. Everyone was so amazingly competent at their job and so wonderful to work with. Long story short, my local Oncologist recommend that I meet with Dr. Jacob Orme as he has shared patients with him before so I canceled my consult with Dr. Kwon as I felt he would be in agreement with Dr Orme and my local Dr. In one day, I had blood work, an MRI, a PMSA PET scan and an hour meeting with Dr. Orme and his PA. In a "normal" hospital system this would have taken a month! Dr. Orme was able to schedule my first injection for the NEXT DAY as they wanted me to start treatment ASAP. The PET wasn't great but I expected that. So thankful my team is committed to doing everything possible to control this menace. I am so happy we made the trip to Mayo!
@corlyf, what treatment plan is being recommended?
I am 61. Just had MRI scan in Jan and May. PSA is 7.9 now, starting at 4.2 since early 2020. 2 of 14 cores biopsy is aggressive cancer. Gleason score are 8. Will get further treatment at NCI of NIH in MD.
I also got a second opinion from Mayo (Jacksonville). That place is run the way a hospital should be! I hope it is the same for you.
51, just diagnosed May 8th. GS 6, PSA 4.06, 4 of 12 cores between 15-25%. Retired Navy, so being seen by the VA. However, I feel I need to see non-VA second opinion for treatment options. Just requested a consultation with the Phoenix Mayo clinic... I live 3mi from it.
70 now. Diagnosed at 68.
You are in good hands. Dr. Kwon and his team have monitored and controlled my husband's Stage 4 cancer since 2011. They refer to their treatment protocol as "whack a mole." Hang in there.
