I was 58. Aggressive cancer. 126.5 PSA. On Lupron. Had a prostatectomy, 7 weeks radiation a year later, then 5 more weeks radiation 2 years after that. Currently I’m on Zytiga in addition to the Lupron shots. Right now my PSA is undetectable.
Personally, I am 76. Just finished 8 weeks of radiation 2 days ago. Over the past few months, I’ve met many men in their 50’s being treated.
Here’s what the Cancer Society says about incidence by age:
Risk of prostate cancer
About 1 man in 9 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime.
Prostate cancer is more likely to develop in older men and in African-American men. About 6 cases in 10 are diagnosed in men who are 65 or older, and it is rare in men under 40. The average age at diagnosis is about 66.
75 when diagnosed.
