I'm a 42 year old black male with normal BMI of 26. Recently I'm experiencing poor erection and I'm struggling to pee in the early hours of the morning. Could this be prostate cancer?

If you can get your PSA blood test from a urologist. That way if there is an issue, you’re already connected with a specialist.

Katishi, it is now recommended that Black men should begin PSA screening for prostate cancer around age 40:

"In April 2024, the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) tried to help close the gap by issuing new guidelines, published in NEJM Evidence, recommending that Black men consider PSA screening starting between the ages of 40 and 45."

If you consult a urologist soon, he or she can investigate whether the issues you are experiencing are BPH, prostate cancer, or another genitourinary problem. Please don't delay seeking care to set your mind at ease and to begin treatment of whatever is causing you trouble. Best of luck and keep us posted.

I'll just add that even if for some reason your insurance doesn't cover it, the PSA test is cheap (under $50 last I heard), so it's worth it for the cost of a lunch date.
