What can be wrong with my jaw?

Posted by ariza9110 @ariza9110, 1 day ago

Okay, so the first time i expreinced something similair was when i took vyvanse, i remember that it felt like my jaw muscles became very tense and gelt exhausted and because of that i remember that i kept my mouth open during the day and didnt closed it in a resting posture, then i stopped taking vyvanse and it went away, afterwards two months later i had many teeth fillings and since the first dental work i felt the excact same feeling like my jaw muscles where very tense and exhausted so i kept my mouth open instead of keeping it close in resting pose, for a month or so, but afterwars what i expreince is a feeing that my tounge doesnt have where to sit inside of mu mouth, and i have a constant urge to reposition my tounge and jaw because of this, when i try to close my mouth it feels like my tounge/jaw is pulling upwards, also many times i can feel my tounge pressing on my palate (idk if purely from discomfort or also involuntary) and also when eating my bite doesnt feel right at all and also when biting my teeth themselves make squeaking sounds, i went to the dentist when it started to readjust the bite which didnt helped, i also went to a tmj specialist who didnt found anything, what to do next? What can it be

What tests and imaging was done? Did you have a MRI of your head and neck? Have you seen a neurologist and had a swallow test?

Definitely see a neurologist for brain/head MRI and orthopedic spine specialist for cervical spine. You need to see soft tissues/nerves as well as bone. X-ray is not sufficient.

You need to check jaw/joint health (soft tissues and nerves), check your cervical spine in neck to see if you have compressed spinal cord/nerves affecting neck/head, etc. It could be mechanical compression or an issue with joints/nerves. That is why it would be good to be evaluated by a neurologist, orthopedic spine specialist and even a rheumatologist.

I had the same symptoms. It was from years of grinding my teeth (bruxism), mostly at night and sometimes during the day, clenching my jaws unconsciously due to tension and stress.

My left jaw got so painful one time, they sent me to an oral surgeon. I had ground my teeth so long and hard that the meniscus (cartilage) in the left jaw joint had fractured. I had lost proper rotation and translation (side to side motion and back and forth motion) in the left joint, and one of the two on the right side. The pain is gone now, but with the joints not working right, it leaves it all up to the muscles to chew, talk, everything.

That "tongue too big" thing is so annoying! But you get used to it. And yeah, my jaw muscles get so fatigued from the clenching still when I go thru stressful times, I have to force them to relax like you (mouth open).

I was told there's nothing they can really do for it. Except relax! Don't you hate hearing that?!
