Vit. K2 for osteopenia? What else? Light weights exercise?
Due to still untreated hyperparathyroidism (I'm hoping to find a top surgeon who does parathyroidectomy *VERY OFTEN* and who has very good outcomes), I have hypercalcemia and osteopenia. I'm male and nearly 77.5. For my bones, I've been taking daily vitamin K2 (one 90 mcg capsule only with breakfast, MK-7 form), 360 mg magnesium glycinate capsules (240 mg with breakfast and 120 mg with dinner), and, 'til 5 days ago, had been taking daily vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) 800 units (which is 2 pills; I now take only 1 pill since a distant parathyroid surgeon told me it's best to entirely stop the vitamin D3 'til after I've had parathyroidectomy--> she said that continuing to take vitamin D3 before parathyroidectomy will cause greater loss of calcium from my bones. Maybe her advice is based on my PTH, calcium and vitamin D levels- I don't know but she's seen my levels the first two of which are - I think - awful).
If others here have hyperparathyroidism and haven't yet had surgery, what are you taking and are you using light weights to benefit the bones?
