Very elevated GDF-15 suggestive of mitochondrial disease

Posted by blaira @blaira, 4 days ago

Hi,

I have many multi system issues with diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease, POTS, MCAS, small fiber neuropathy, migraines.

I had some labs done and I have very elevated GDF-15 which is concerning for an underlying mitochondrial disorder.

Does anyone know how I can find a Dr. to look at this and make a diagnosis?

I am 65 years old and my body keeps failing in one way or another.

Thank you

Hello @blaira, I did a search of Connect and didn't find any other member who had mentioned having an elevated GDF-15 test but I did see an article this year that mentions GDF15 and a Rochester Mayo doctor who may have some experience.

Hello @blaira,

I found your post interesting, and I wonder what symptoms led to the testing of GDF-15? I have also had some testing, which has shown results of mitochondrial abnormalities. Also, what type of specialists did this testing?

Check out http://www.healthgrades.com
They give rating on doctors from actual patients. They also let you search by "speciality", location, reviews. Or you could try AI, (Chatgpt is the one I like). Just download from your store and ask it questions, then refine questions till you get your information.
Hope this helped.
